Alert! provides a safe place for you to meet guys, make friends and have some fun. It is a lot safer coming to Alert! than cruising along the side of the canal! We pride ourselves on our record and for ensuring that everyone is properly looked after, enjoys the night, leaves happily and takes away only great memories.
We want all of our customers to be able to make informed choices about their sexual relationships, partners and activities. We want you all to remain healthy and to feel safe when you come to Alert! We absolutely prohibit anyone from doing anything to/with you which is against your wishes, may cause you harm, or puts you in danger. Alert! customers know that we will take serious action is anyone oversteps the rules. It is never acceptable for any Alert! member to endanger another person at the club (or even give them cause to feel worried) so you should feel safe and relaxed at the venue. That is your right and we strive to ensure it happens. We always provide ample condoms and lube and have a first-aider on site just in case you have an accident or feel unwell.
However, it is never a bad thing to remind people of the rules from time to time. Our membership rules are designed to help ensure that everyone leaves Alert! having enjoyed their time, but please remember the following:
- Nobody should make you feel uncomfortable at Alert! If they do then please tell a member of the Alert! team immediately. We are always available at Reception. We will take action.
- Nobody should force you to do anything against your will. If you are uncertain, say ‘No’ and remove yourself from the situation. You can always come and talk to us in Reception.
- Nobody should try to persuade you to do anything unsafe or non-consensual. If they do then tell the Alert! team immediately and we will take action. That is not the sort of person or behaviour we want in the club.
- Condoms and lube are provided in individual packets or in ‘Safer Sex Packs’ which you are welcome to take home. We always ensure that there is a plentiful supply.
Please remember that the LGBT Foundation staff (who are often in attendance at Alert!) provide a whole range of services, advice and support including information about PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis). PrEP is starting to become available for men who have sex with men, and massively reduces the risk of contracting HIV. The LGBT Foundation also offers rapid HIV testing and Post-Exposure treatment. There are now effective ways to treat anyone who fears they may have been exposed to the HIV virus. LGBT Foundation can be contacted on 0345 3 30 30 30 and of course, your GP or local Sexual Health Clinic will be able to offer help and support to anyone who is concerned that they may have found themselves at risk. (The NHS Non-emergency number to call is 111)
Information is the best first step in protecting yourself and ensuring that you stay safe. We have found that the Down an’ Dirty site offers some clear, no-nonsense advice on a range of sexual practices, explains what different terms mean, what to avoid doing, and how to remain safe if you decide to try out some of the more advanced sexual practices. Check out the ‘Sexual Practices’ section of their website.
We have a zero-tolerance policy to drug use – anyone found using, dealing or in possession of drugs will be removed.
Please do not use needles in the venue – for any reason.
If you see anyone you think may be suffering under the influence of drugs please tell us straight away and we will ensure that they are looked after by our first aid team.
And if you feel unwell yourself for any reason at all, please let us know straight away so that we can help you.
The Down an’ Dirty site has some useful information on how to spot symptoms of drug use.
Arriving and leaving
If you have any concerns when arriving at or leaving the venue, we have a security team at the main doors who will help. Remember, they are there to ensure your safety. The exits are covered by CCTv and as with any concerns you may have, the team at Reception will do everything they can to assist and to ensure you have a relaxed and enjoyable time at Alert!
We know that for many, the ultimate sign of a good night is if you end up in someone else’s bed the following morning. That is great but please be careful who you leave with. If you have had a bit too much to drink, are you sober enough to deal with any situation which may occur? Do you know the person? Does anyone know who you are leaving with or where you are going with them?
Alert! customers are, in the vast majority, all lovely people who are responsible and considerate. We are sure you will have an amazing time at Alert! and we want you to leave safely so you can come back again soon.
If at any time you have any concerns, worries, fears or problems, contact any of the Alert! team or venue staff and we will help
